BTEC National Certificate in Care


Study Method
There are various methods of study on this course that include classroom sessions, project work, discussion groups, practical work experience placements and visits. .






Duration
Full-time programme, two years.





Who the Course is For
Applications are welcome from those wishing to pursue a career in the caring professions e.g. children, young people, elderly and disabled.
Assessments
You will produce a portfolio of work that is assessed by a range of methods, which may include projects, assignments, case studies and coursework.

Students are allocated a personal course tutor who will provide support and guidance at regular intervals during the course.

Course Leads To

This qualification helps you to go onto Higher Education e.g. for a degree course or you can go straight into work. It can prepare you for a range of careers in health and social care settings such as:

Community work
Health service
Housing service
Social work
Welfare work.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSES at Grade C or above, one of which must be English Language OR a BTEC First diploma in Care at Merit level.

Content

You would study 12 units in total over the two year course but these maybe subject to change once the new award is in place.

There are 7 core units:

Unit 1 - Equality, diversity and rights in care work
Unit 2 - Communication and supportive skills for care work
Unit 3 - Research for care
Unit 4 - Applying sociology
Unit 5 - Vocational practice (a double weighted unit linked to placements)
Unit 6 - Protection self and others.
Unit 7 - Applying psychology

And 4 specialist units:

Unit 11 - Health promotion
Unit 12 - Practical caring skills
Unit 15 - Project in care
Unit 19 - Lifespan development
